Best Travel Gear for Moms and Kids

Traveling with kids is equal parts exciting and chaotic. Leaving the house on a normal day can be hard enough, but for a vacation sometimes getting underway feels harder than the trip itself. Between snacks, meltdowns, diaper changes, forgotten chargers, and trying to keep everyone entertained. Over time, I’ve learned that having the right travel gear can make a huge difference, although I’m still learning every time.

Whether it’s a road trip, catching a flight, visiting family, or navigating another military move (because let’s be real that takes a lot of prep and patience before the travel day), certain items can help make traveling so much more manageable for everyone involved. These are the travel products that have truly helped our family survive and even enjoy traveling together.

  1. Dr Brown’s Microwave Steam Sterilizer Bags: Let’s be real, sterilizing bottles and pacifiers is like a job in itself. We started using these at home (for the bottle nipples and pacifiers) because it was so much easier and less time consuming. There are 5 bags in each box with 30 Uses per Bag. Perfect for busy families and travel.
  2. 2.6 Gal 10L Collapsible Wash Basin with Drain Plug: This multifunctional sink works for Baby Bottles, RV, Camping, Kitchen, Travel & Outdoor Activities, pretty much anything you use a regular sink for. Where we live, counter space isn’t great and especially when washing our son’s cups we don’t want to do that multiple times a day. We put the cups in this and still have access to the sink as we need it. It’s also great for traveling and hotel rooms.
  3. Portable Charger Built-in Cables and AC Wall Plug: This portable charger is compact, lightweight, and perfect for travel. It can charge multiple phones at once and plugs directly into the wall to recharge, which means you don’t have to pack an extra cord just to charge the charger itself. It’s a simple but incredibly convenient travel essential for busy moms and families on the go.
  4. 300W Car Power Inverter: Traveling sometimes means working on the go, and there’s nothing worse than your laptop dying in the middle of an important meeting or while trying to finish a report. This power inverter makes it easy to charge multiple devices at once and even allows you to plug in regular cords, making it incredibly convenient for road trips, long drives, or working from the car.
  5. 4 Pack LCD Writing Tablet for Kids: These have easily become one of our son’s favorite travel activities. He loves using them both at home and on the go, whether he’s drawing by himself or asking us to draw pictures with him. They’re mess-free, lightweight, and great for keeping little ones entertained during long car rides, flights, or waiting times.

At the end of the day, traveling with kids will probably never be completely stress-free, and honestly, that’s okay. There will still be unexpected meltdowns, forgotten items, delays, and moments where everyone feels overstimulated and exhausted. Having a few reliable travel essentials has made these challenging moments feel a little more manageable to help create smoother, more enjoyable experiences for the whole family.

I’m still learning every single time we travel, especially navigating life as a military family where travel often comes with extra layers of preparation and unpredictability. I’ve realized that being prepared doesn’t mean everything has to go perfectly, it just means giving yourself tools that make the journey a little easier.

If you’re looking for more family travel recommendations, essentials, and products that have helped us along the way, here’s the link to my list on my Amazon Storefront where I share even more of our favorite finds.
